Whether you’re in the Nassau area for an afternoon or a week, a visit to the Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark is a must. From exhilarating rides to exhibits showcasing the marine life of the Bahamas, it’s the ultimate family destination.
Aquaventure Waterpark is a massive, 141-acre waterscape found at Atlantis Bahamas. With water slides that let you zip through shark-infested waters, lazy rivers that snake their way around the resort, and aquariums teeming with sharks, sea turtles, and other animals, the Atlantis Bahamas water park offers attractions for travelers of all types.
The sprawling property of Atlantis has its roots in the second half of the 20th century.
The Atlantis Bahamas water park has a history that stretches back to the 1960s. In 1967, construction of the first Paradise Island bridge began, and in 1968, the first hotels appeared on the island. Over the next few decades, various real estate moguls (including Donald Trump) invested large sums of money into the island’s facilities. In 1988, Atlantis opened its doors to the public.
While previous resort amenities had existed prior, in 2008, Aquaventure Waterpark and the hotel’s marine exhibits both got massive updates. Since receiving recent renovations and expansions in 2017, the Atlantis Bahamas water park has cemented its place as one of the country’s top attractions.
Today, you can spend anywhere from a couple of hours to an entire day exploring the park. Here are some of the top attractions you’ll want to check out.
Navigating around Aquaventure Waterpark will require a bit of planning ahead of time.
Although other Nassau hotels house water parks and exhilarating attractions, the Atlantis water slides are in a league of their own. The resort houses more than eight slides – all of which offer guests and day trippers a completely different experience.
Several of the Atlantis water slides involve the famous Mayan Temple.
Some of the most popular Atlantis Aquaventure slides include:
The Atlantis Lazy River treats guests to a ride around the park’s perimeter.
The Atlantis Lazy River, known as Rapids River, snakes its way around Power Tower, one of the buildings housing some of the different Atlantis water slides. Technically the longest river in the Bahamas, the mile-long Rapids River pushes riders through wave surges, over seven-foot drop-offs, and into white water rapids.
The variations of Rapids River make it one of the highlights of Aquaventure Waterpark.
If you’re looking for a more laid-back experience away from the Atlantis shark slide or the Atlantis lazy river, you can find it in the waterpark’s many pools. The resort is home to over 20 swimming areas and 11 unique pools, each of which offers a different experience.
The Atlantis Bahamas Water Park is home to many pools, all of which offer different experiences.
The Cove Pool, for example, is adults only, while kids have three pools to choose from. Likewise, Blu Pool offers a festive and upbeat environment, while the Royal Baths are the place to go to unwind.
Besides offering different slides and pools, Aquaventure Waterpark is also famous for its aquariums. From lagoons and underwater ruins to coral formations, the resort is home to a vast collection of marine exhibits. Be sure to visit the Dig Aquarium or the Predator Lagoon Aquarium.
Many of these exhibits don’t just allow guests to see the animals – they also allow them to get up close and personal with them. At Water’s Edge Lagoon, you can swim with the migratory cownose ray, as well as feed and interact with them. Likewise, Ruins Lagoon draws its inspiration from the mythical city of Atlantis and is another aquarium in which guests can swim and snorkel.
The Atlantis shark slide and the park’s aquariums are some of the many places that showcase marine life.
Besides offering all sorts of exhilarating attractions, Aquaventure Atlantis also puts you in a prime position to enjoy the stunning beaches that caress the resort. Many of the resort’s beaches are part of Cabbage Beach, one of the prettiest beaches in the Nassau area.
Cove Beach is a postcard-perfect stretch of sand.
These different beaches include:
