The Bahamar resort is home to one of the newest and most exciting Nassau attractions: the Baha Mar Waterpark. With state-of-the-art amenities and prime beachfront access, the waterpark is an exciting place to visit no matter where you stay in the Nassau area.
While many travelers might head to Paradise Island for sprawling resorts and exhilarating attractions, the Baha Mar Waterpark is one New Providence destination that can check all of your boxes. From its prime location on the stunning Cable Beach to its 15 lush acres of rides, slides, and pools, you’d be remiss to not add the Baha Bay Water Park to your Nassau itinerary.
The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Water Park and the resort have a complex history. Renovations on an existing hotel structure began in 2010. However, after that investor filed for bankruptcy, it passed over to another buyer in 2016. In 2017, the resort opened with one hotel option, the Grand Hyatt, but two others, the SLS and the Rosewood, opened their doors to the public soon after.
After suffering through the COVID-19 pandemic, the Baha Mar Waterpark opened in 2021. This makes it one of the newest attractions in the Nassau area.
Baha Mar Waterpark is a sprawling complex full of action and excitement.
Despite its rocky start, the Bahamar Resort has had an important impact on Nassau and the Bahamas, in general. Today, the resort accounts for 12% of the archipelago’s GDP, directly employing 5,000 people and indirectly employing another 15,000 more.
No waterpark would be complete without slides and rides. Thankfully, the Baha Mar Waterpark is home to plenty.
Raft rides are a blast at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Waterpark.
Pirate’s Plunge, Thunderball, and Devil’s Backbone are slides that rely on gravity, sharp turns, and free-fall drops to create shriek-inducing experiences. Similarly, Dueling Riptide Coaster, Cyclone Rush, and Hammerhead are multi-person raft rides that propel you through exhilarating twists and turns.
Hold on tight, as all of the Baha Mar water slides and raft rides are wild!
The Baha Mar Waterpark houses some of the most impressive pools in the Nassau area.
If you’re looking to relax, consider hopping on a tube to float down the resort’s quarter-mile-long lazy river. Just keep in mind that as the attraction also features rapids and currents, The River might end up being a bit less “lazy” than you envisioned!
At Baha Bay Lagoon, guests can hop into a 20,000-square-foot wave pool. With a shallower section for those craving a more peaceful experience and a deeper area that features six-foot waves, the wave pool can cater to whatever sort of day you’re hoping to have.
Baha Bay Lagoon is the waterpark’s wave pool.
Families with kids will want to head to Turtle Beach and Stingray Cove, as both areas house kid-friendly slides, rides, and pools.
When you’re craving a break from the action and are ready to grab a bite to eat, you’ll have several options to choose from at the Baha Mar Waterpark. From casual dishes like hot dogs and hamburgers from Barracuda to more upscale options at 25° North, finding options to accommodate everyone is a breeze.
You’ll probably want food and a drink after enjoying rides like Thunderball.
As the Baha Mar Waterpark stretches across 15 acres, you can easily get lost as you make your way around. Spending some time in front of the maps you come across can help ensure you make the most of your time.
Maps across the park help you know where you are.
As you progress through the Baha Bay Water Park, make sure to appreciate the little touches. From walls lined with work from local Bahamian artists to landscaping that makes you feel like you’ve stepped foot into a tropical postcard, the details are everything at Baha Mar.
As mentioned, the resort features three hotel properties. Staying at any of the following hotels will give you unlimited access to the Baha Mar Waterpark, as well as to other resort amenities:
If you’re staying at the Bahamar Resort, you can enjoy complimentary access to the waterpark.
If you’re not staying at the Bahamar Resort, you’ll need to purchase a day pass to enjoy the different attractions.
Day pass rates (as of 2023) are:
While day pass rates are more affordable than other water parks in the Nassau area, prices can add up quickly. Lockers, towels, water bottles, and more can tack on quite a bit of money to the base price you pay. Bringing refillable water bottles and your own towels can help cut down on costs.
The Baha Mar Waterpark is a New Providence highlight. With its Cable Beach location, Baha Mar water slides, and dozens of other attractions, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that tourists consider the waterpark to be one of the top things to do in the Nassau area.
After making your way through the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Water Park and soaking up the sun at Cable Beach, you’ll want to explore other sites in and around New Providence. Historic attractions like Queen’s Staircase and Fort Fincastle are a short taxi ride away, as is the lively Junkanoo Beach area.
