The Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant dates back to the 18th Century. Built by a pirate captain in 1740, the structure’s history speaks to the power of piracy in those early colonial years. Pirate captains were so influential they were able to form entire “republics” and confederacies.
In the decades after its construction, the building served several purposes. At one point, it was a mess hall for soldiers, and in 1844, it became the island’s first inn. The early 20th Century saw it become a private residence, and in 1973, it evolved into the luxury hotel it is today.
Many of the Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant attractions date back hundreds of years.
Since becoming an upscale hotel, the property has expanded to encompass several other venues, including Graycliff Bahama Barrels. Today, the Graycliff Heritage Village features several shops, restaurants, and museums, making it one of the best places to visit in Downtown Nassau.
