Royal Bahamian Sandals has a history that’s true to its name. In 1948, a British aviation pilot named Sir Oliver Simmonds founded the Balmoral Beach Club, an upscale hotel on Cable Beach. This hotel would go on to attract many famous guests, including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and The Beatles, the latter of whom filmed part of their movie Help! at the hotel.  

Today the Sandals private offshore island is called Balmoral Island.

As New Providence, nearby Paradise Island, and Nassau, in general, entered a period of redevelopment, Sandals Resorts acquired the Balmoral Beach Club, rebranding it as Royal Bahamian Sandals Resort. 

In 2022, the resort reopened after the pandemic and a $55 million renovation project.

As an all-inclusive resort, room and suite fees are higher at Royal Bahamian Sandals than most other hotels in the area. However, the price covers food, drinks, amenities, and more. 

The resort’s all-inclusive nature means you won’t have to worry about paying for food or drinks.

The most affordable accommodation options start at around $360 per person per night (as of 2024*). Larger, more luxurious suites and villas cost hundreds of dollars more, with the most expensive option costing around $790 per person per night.

One of the jewels of the resort is Sandals Barefoot Cay.

Sandals Barefoot Cay is an offshore island, located just off the coast of Cable Beach. Royal Bahamian Sandals owns the eastern, private half of the island, while cruise ships and tour companies offer excursions to the western, more public part of the island. 

At Sandals Barefoot Cay, hotel guests can enjoy a private beach, free of the crowds found at most other Nassau beaches. The island Beach Club has a pool, swim-up bar, and a seafood restaurant, and Red Lane Spa offers the ultimate tropical spa experience.

Sandals: Getting in

Most travelers entering the island will arrive at Lynden Pindling International Airport. This is Nassau’s main airport that accommodates flights from North America, Europe, and other regions of the world. 

Royal Bahamian Sandals offers complimentary shuttle services to its guests, so you won’t need to worry about hailing a cab or taking public transportation. You’ll simply make your way to the Sandals desk before stepping out of the airport.

Once you’re on the shuttle, it’ll take around 15 minutes to reach the resort. Upon arrival, staff will greet you with champagne and a cold towel.
